As mentioned in the post right below this one, I have a Google Reader box in the sidebar. If you're reading this as the most recent post, that box is actually to the right of this post! Amazing! This is why you love the internet!
Anyways, that box moves at different speeds. Sometimes I'll add a flurry of stuff. Sometimes I won't add much at all. In the interest of saving some stuff that might get buried, and blogging about stuff that doesn't warrant much more than a sentence, I am going to try and blog some sort of "link round-up" every now and then. It won't always be accompanied by a picture of Screech Powers, though.
Will Ohman introduced the Braves line-up on Saturday with an excellent Harry Caray impersonation. This is probably the first time I ever admired something done by an Atlanta Brave. They added another achievement to that list later on Saturday, when they blew a six-run lead to the Phils.
The very excellent Spaced is now available stateside on DVD. How great is this show? I imported the UK DVD and hacked my DVD player to play it. So, very good indeed. Of course, now I'm tempted to buy the American set so I don't have to bother with all of that in order to watch it in the future.
I've put the Twitter blurb -- 3 updates rather than 5 this time around -- back in the sidebar, right below my Google Reader updates. Twitter is still up-and-down -- and don't worry, I still sort of hate myself for using it -- but I think I found the solution for having it not affect the web site when it's down. So, enjoy. Or not. Probably not.
You've probably heard about Muxtape, as it's "blown up," as they say. I decided to jump in, using my limited selection at work. If I manage to stay on top of this, I'll put a permanent link up somewhere on the site.
UPDATE:A few weeks back, I posted the first track for a mix I made for some friends. Using the nifty muxtape, I realized I could put the entire mix up -- for both my CD of the Month Club friends, as well as my oh-so-dedicated blog readers. Enjoy.
I'm one of those Philadelphians who just doesn't travel. The last time I boarded a plane was in the summer of 2001. I still get a thrill taking the train to New York. I'm just not worldly. In fact, I built my Writers House staff bio around this idea.
That, though, will change soon. I'm flying twice in the next two months, which should take care of all my traveling needs through 2030.
With the first game tipping off right about now, I thought I'd post a few notes about my soon-to-be-devastated bracket:
-- I picked St. Joe's and Temple to win in the first round.
-- But not Villanova.
-- Davidson (10-seed in the Midwest) is the low-seed I have going the farthest.
-- But it's not that far.
-- I'm realizing as I look at this bracket for "fun facts," I picked pretty safely after the first round.
-- Other shot-in-the-dark upsets I picked: South Alabama, Baylor, St. Mary's.
-- So yeah, my bracket is very safe. D'oh.
-- My final four: North Carolina, Wisconsin, Pittsburgh, UCLA
-- Championship: UCLA over UNC
As you may or may not know, in addition to being the name of my web site, Banana Grabbers is originally the name of my Quizo team. (OK, it was originally something in Arrested Development, but you know, whatever. Let's get on with this.) I must say, we're a pretty good team. No matter our attendance, we always perform solidly. We compete, and place. Not every week, but frequently, although we have our dry spells -- much like any Quizo team.
Tonight, however, we captured the Holy Grail: 51, or a perfect score at the New Deck Tavern. Our host noted that it was only the 5th or 6th time he'd seen the perfect score in his fourteen years of hosting Quizo. As Jossie noted, we won't dwell on the fact that the man has hosted a pub quiz game for 14 years.
No, we won't. WE WON'T. Instead, let us bask in 51. 51. 51. Bernie Williams, I never knew I'd love you so.
Stephen Colbert is coming to Philly. Of course I'm going to put the video up on my blog. And of course tickets to the show are already gone. I'll have to find a way in, as this is happening less than two blocks from Writers House.
Look to your right. See that new section called "FINGER FOOD"? Well, those are my four most recent Twitter updates. That section will be updated as I update Twitter. I figured it was "necessary," as I find myself using it for silly little things, as well as the brief links I would post as "asides" in the previous format. I update Twitter through a little IM box in GMail, which doesn't allow me much time to consider, "Hey, is this stupid?" So my apologies now for the stupidity to come.
